A própria publicação se apresenta como a monthly journal of mail and ephemeral works e identifica como editores Ulises Carrión, Aart van Barneveld e Salvador Flores, com endereço editorial em Other Books and So, Herengracht 259, Amsterdã, Países Baixos.
A página inicial apresenta em grande destaque o título EPHEMERA no.4. Logo abaixo aparece o expediente que registra First year, January 1978, a periodicidade mensal, os nomes dos três editores, valores de venda e assinatura e o endereço da Other Books and So.
Na região central aparece a inscrição HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM THE INTERMEDIA GARAGE, documentando a presença de material relacionado à Intermedia Garage dentro do número.
À esquerda aparece a peça gráfica I AM A MONUMENT, associada à publicação ZWEITSCHRIFT 3 Architektur Stadt.
Ephemera No 4, first year, January 1978, is an issue of the experimental periodical Ephemera devoted to the circulation of Mail Art, postal art, ephemeral works, documents, images, texts and graphic material produced or submitted by participants in international artistic networks. The publication describes itself as a monthly journal of mail and ephemeral works and identifies Ulises Carrión, Aart van Barneveld and Salvador Flores as editors, with its editorial address at Other Books and So, Herengracht 259, Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
The opening page prominently displays the title EPHEMERA no.4. Directly below it, the editorial information records First year, January 1978, the monthly frequency, the names of the three editors, subscription and sales information and the Other Books and So address. The incorporation of administrative information into the visual field is characteristic of Ephemera, where editorial matter, documentation, artwork and graphic reproduction coexist on the same printed surface.
Among the reproduced materials is a sequence of two closely related photographs identified by the words ON and OFF. Beside them is a textual fragment titled Postulate 1. The Postulate of Interpersonal Needs, accompanied by a diagram concerning interpersonal behavior. The juxtaposition of photographic imagery, theoretical text and diagram demonstrates the broad documentary character of the magazine and its practice of reorganizing materials from different contexts within an editorial montage.
Across the central area appears the inscription HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM THE INTERMEDIA GARAGE, documenting the inclusion of material associated with Intermedia Garage in this issue. Below it, an extensive graphic composition combines fragments of drawings, photography, typography and text, including the partially visible phrase La muerte en una ciudad. These elements are not presented through the compartmentalized structure of a conventional magazine but are incorporated into a single visual field.
The second documented page extends the same montage principle. On the left is the graphic piece I AM A MONUMENT, associated with ZWEITSCHRIFT 3 Architektur Stadt. Its presence introduces issues of architecture, urban space, language and representation into the editorial network represented by Ephemera.
In the upper right section is a composition on graph paper containing the words WHATEVER, WHENEVER and WHEREVER. The repetition of the three terms organizes language as a visual structure and connects the material with visual poetry, conceptual art and graphic experimentation circulating through international artists publication networks during the 1970s.
Other elements on the page include cards, drawings, printed matter, handwritten annotations, a facial image printed in color and a photographic reproduction of an interior space. Several pieces carry handwritten notes that appear to register authorship, title, place or date, although the available image does not permit secure attribution of every element.
Ephemera No 4 exemplifies the magazine as a printed space for assembling and redistributing materials originating from different artists, cities and projects. Rather than reproducing only finished artworks, the publication incorporates invitations, photographs, texts, diagrams, cards, printed matter and traces of correspondence, making the international communication network itself part of the content.
The issue belongs within the context of Ulises Carrións editorial activities and Other Books and So in Amsterdam. Ephemera transformed postal and documentary exchange into an editorial structure, bringing together the functions of magazine, archive, printed exhibition and distribution system. This procedure is closely connected with the history of Mail Art and international experimental publishing during the 1970s.
Ephemera No 4 therefore documents an editorial practice based on circulation, aggregation and recombination of information. The presence of Intermedia Garage, ZWEITSCHRIFT 3 Architektur Stadt, photographic material, textual propositions and graphic compositions demonstrates the range of languages that could coexist within the publication and its role as an international platform for postal art, conceptual practices and ephemeral artistic production.

TEXTO DE OBSERVAÇÃO INGLÊS
The copy is identified within the publication itself as EPHEMERA no.4. The printed editorial information directly beneath the title records First year, January 1978 and describes Ephemera as a monthly journal of mail and ephemeral works. January 1978 has therefore been retained as the catalogue date because it is explicitly printed on the documented copy.
The same editorial section identifies Ulises Carrión, Aart van Barneveld and Salvador Flores as editors. Information concerning the price per issue, annual subscriptions, international circulation costs and the address c/o Other Books and So, Herengracht 259, Amsterdam, The Netherlands is also visible.
The page contains two closely related photographs marked ON and OFF. To the right are the title Postulate 1. The Postulate of Interpersonal Needs and a diagram identified as General Scheme for Describing Interpersonal Behavior. No authorship has been assigned to this material because it cannot be securely determined from the supplied image alone.
The inscription HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM THE INTERMEDIA GARAGE appears prominently in the central section and provides documentary evidence for the presence of material associated with Intermedia Garage.
The lower portion of the first image contains an extensive graphic composition combining drawings, photographs and overlapping text. The phrase La muerte en una ciudad is partially visible, but the complete title and authorship cannot be securely established.
The second image prominently reproduces I AM A MONUMENT together with ZWEITSCHRIFT 3 Architektur Stadt. The page also contains a textual composition presenting WHATEVER, WHENEVER and WHEREVER on graph paper.
Additional pieces include handwritten annotations, drawings, a facial image printed in a pink tone, postal material and a photograph of architecture or an interior space. Some handwritten notes appear to record names, locations or dates, although the image resolution and handwriting do not permit secure transcription of every entry.
The documented sheets show a central publication fold and minor surface irregularities visible in the photographs. The physical dimensions of the copy were not provided and have not been visually estimated.
The specific printing process cannot be securely determined from the available photographs alone. The technique has therefore been recorded conservatively as a printed publication on paper incorporating photographic reproductions, typographic texts, drawings, graphic elements and handwritten interventions.
