Na mesma composição são visíveis cartões com textos como Event for a Year, one bird, two birds, two birds, no birds, Winter Event, antifreeze, Circular Event e Event for a Whole Year, one year.
Ephemera No 3, first year, January 1978, is the third issue of the experimental periodical Ephemera, a publication connected with the international networks of Mail Art, postal art and artists publications established around Ulises Carrión and Other Books and So in Amsterdam. The issue follows the November and December 1977 numbers and continues the editorial principle of bringing together artworks, photographs, drawings, cards, projects, messages, handwritten inscriptions and information originating from different artists and locations.
On the documented pages, the name EPHEMERA 3 is incorporated directly into the graphic composition, arranged vertically within a grid containing repeated graphic marks. Close to the title are handwritten editorial details identifying Ulises Carrión, Aart van Barneveld and Salvador Flores, together with references to Other Books and So and Amsterdam in the Netherlands. Editorial information therefore becomes part of the visual field rather than remaining separate from artwork, reproduction and documentation.
At the upper section of one page is a photographic reproduction associated with Urszula Petasz, accompanied by the handwritten indication Elblag, Poland, 1977. The reference to Petasz and the city of Elbl?g documents the participation of Eastern European artists within the international network represented by Ephemera. The photograph is accompanied by handwritten information concerning authorship, location and date, preserving the documentary logic characteristic of the publication.
In the lower area of the same page appears another photographic composition accompanied by a handwritten reference to Budapest, 1977. The material combines photographic imagery, portraiture, graphic montage and incorporated text, demonstrating the formal diversity of the contributions assembled within the periodical.
Another documented page presents a concentration of cards and graphic pieces originating from different contexts. Among the clearly legible elements is From Backworks, New York, 1977, connecting the material with experimental publishing and artistic circulation in New York.
A prominent element reads Merry Christmas, Backworks, Cards by Bob Watts 1963. The reference to Bob Watts and the year 1963 introduces documentation related to earlier experiments with cards, multiples and circulation, connecting them historically with practices that would become central to international postal art networks during the 1970s.
The same composition includes cards bearing texts such as Event for a Year, one bird, two birds, two birds, no birds, Winter Event, antifreeze, Circular Event and Event for a Whole Year, one year. The presence of these materials connects Ephemera with conceptual practices in which instructions, propositions, written language, duration and circulation function as components of artistic work.
The page also includes a photographic reproduction carrying the text I like your face and a long dark graphic strip composed of small figures, gestures and sequential images arranged horizontally. The simultaneous presence of photography, drawing, text, cards, documentary reproduction and graphic sequences exemplifies the montage structure characteristic of Ephemera.
Ephemera No 3 should therefore be understood as part of an international publication in which the circulation of documents itself became artistic material. Rather than presenting isolated works, the magazine made visible relationships among artists, cities, correspondence networks, independent projects and alternative forms of distribution. Amsterdam, Elbl?g, Budapest and New York appear across its pages as points within an international geography constructed through correspondence and exchange.
The January 1978 issue documents a transnational artistic network based on Mail Art, postal art, conceptual art and experimental publishing. Ephemera operated simultaneously as a magazine, periodical archive, circulation system and printed exhibition space, preserving traces of relationships among artists who used the postal system and graphic media as instruments for communication and artistic production.
