What Do You Want to Be-, presented at the II Fespopi in June 1969, belongs to the context of Poema Processo. The composition combines verbal language, photography, enlarged typography and graphic signs within a visual structure based on strong black and white contrast.
In the upper and central area, the question O QUE VOCÊ QUER SER, meaning What Do You Want to Be, is arranged vertically in large white letters against a black background. To the right of the phrase, an oversized question mark dominates the composition and becomes a central graphic element. Its scale exceeds its conventional punctuation function and transforms it into an autonomous visual form.
In the lower section appears a cropped photograph of a woman's face with her hand positioned in front of her mouth. The facial expression and gesture are integrated with the verbal question, establishing a direct relationship among human image, doubt, choice and interrogation. A small white square appears near the photograph and visually corresponds to the lower point of the large question mark.
The work organizes word, photography and punctuation as equivalent components. The question is not presented merely as text for linear reading, since its arrangement, scale and relationship with the female image construct a visual structure that invites interpretive participation from the viewer.
What Do You Want to Be- demonstrates procedures associated with Poema Processo by transforming signs of written language into spatial and graphic material. The interrogation, human figure, chromatic contrast and typographic organization converge into a proposition based on identity, choice and possibility.
The composition presents a predominantly black background in the upper area, where the inscription O QUE VOCÊ QUER SER appears in large white capital letters. To the right, an oversized white question mark occupies a significant portion of the surface.
In the lower area there is a black and white photograph showing part of a woman's face with her hand positioned in front of her mouth. The image is cropped into a rectangular format and placed over a light horizontal band extending across the lower section of the sheet.
Near the photograph appears a small white square separated from the large question mark. This element creates graphic continuity with the punctuation and reinforces the relationship among typography, form and image.
