Hundreds of characters occupy almost the entire rectangular field, forming a compact visual mesh in which the letter no longer functions only as a unit of the alphabet and becomes an image, module, texture and structural element. The multiplication of the same sign produces rhythm, vibration, movement and a sense of continuous expansion, transforming verbal reading into a predominantly visual experience. The letter A, the first unit of the Latin alphabet, may be associated with ideas of beginning, origin, opening, learning, naming and the birth of language. By repeating this character to the point of saturation, Avelino de Araújo investigates the relationships between writing and image, legibility and abstraction, order and dispersion, unity and multiplicity.
