BIOGRAPHY IN ENGLISHSerse Luigetti is an Italian visual artist and experimental poet whose work has been continuously associated with Mail Art, Postal Art, visual poetry, copy art, artistamps, rubber stamps, collage, asemic writing and network based artistic communication. His activity is historically connected with Perugia in Umbria, Italy. The consulted sources do not securely establish his date or place of birth, formal education or teachers. What can be documented is a sustained artistic practice beginning at least in the early 1980s, including the organization of Postal Art projects, the production of visual poetry and the circulation of works through international exhibitions, archives and correspondence networks. Recent sources continue to document his activity in 2025 and 2026.A fundamental characteristic of Luigetti practice is the transformation of the mechanisms of circulation themselves into artistic language. Addresses, rubber stamps, artistamps, envelopes, photocopies, typographic repetition, image fragments, logos and inscriptions become structural components of his works. This approach is clearly documented in correspondence preserved by Rare Books and Special Collections at the Hesburgh Libraries, University of Notre Dame, sent from Perugia by Luigetti to Vagrich Bakhchanyan in New York around 26 October 1984. The central area combines repeated figures, female portraits and modular images, while the lower area incorporates two large blocks containing the expressions SYNTH MATIC productions and FUTURE an ARCHIVES. The right margin contains the identification SERSE LUIGETTI and an address in Perugia. The work therefore offers direct evidence of Luigetti use of seriality, copying, rubber stamps, archive imagery, postal identity and circulation as elements of visual poetry.In 1981, according to documentation published in Perugia in connection with a later exhibition devoted to the artist, Serse Luigetti founded the Mail Art magazine Sign Post with Mario Mirabassi. It is described as the first Mail Art magazine in Umbria. The publication had an edition of one hundred numbered copies and took the form of an envelope container holding visual and sound materials. It circulated among documentation centres, literary and art magazines, artists and critics in ten countries across Europe, the Americas and Asia.
