The Loft International Mail Art Show was an international mail art exhibition organized by the Arts Committee of The Loft, a space dedicated to literature and the arts in Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States. The exhibition opened on May 4, 1980. The project was structured as an international open call for artists interested in participating through the postal system, a central feature of mail art networks developed during the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s.The call established no size limitations and accepted postcards, envelopes, books, xerox reproductions, three dimensional works and pieces produced in any medium. The regulations stated that submitted works would not be returned. The organizers also announced that a catalogue would be printed, expanding the documentation and circulation of the participants and submitted works. The postal deadline for contributions was April 10, 1980.Works were to be sent to the Arts Committee, in care of The Loft, at 3200 Chicago Avenue South, Minneapolis, Minnesota, postal code 55407, United States. The document records the international circulation of artistic calls and the connection of Falves Silva with cultural institutions, arts committees and alternative mail art networks active in the United States. The graphic composition of the postcard uses black drawing on yellowed paper. The border combines organic forms, faces, eyes, animal figures, abstract patterns and fantastic elements. The central text has a typewritten appearance and presents the conditions for participation in the exhibition. This combination of information, drawing, typography and postal circulation transforms the invitation itself into a graphic object associated with the aesthetics of mail art.The preservation of the postcard in the archive of Falves Silva constitutes documentary evidence of his participation in international artistic communication networks.
