Cloud é uma poesia visual e conceitual de Ji
í Valoch, realizada em 1969 na então Tchecoslováquia. Cloud pertence a um momento fundamental da trajetória de Ji
í Valoch. Em 1969 o artista considerava encerrada uma etapa centrada na exploração da estrutura pura dos grafemas e começava a ampliar sua investigação em direção à arte conceitual orientada linguisticamente e ao que posteriormente descreveu como semântica não verbal. Nesse novo campo, desenho, forma, palavra, objeto e reconhecimento poderiam substituir ou complementar a estrutura tipográfica dos poemas anteriores. A documentação sobre sua trajetória aponta precisamente 1969 como um momento de transição entre seus optical poems, desenvolvidos principalmente entre 1966 e 1968, e formas conceituais mais abertas baseadas em relações entre significado e percepção.
Essa mudança é particularmente visível em Cloud. Ao contrário de trabalhos anteriores produzidos por máquina de escrever, a obra elimina completamente a palavra da superfície frontal e oferece somente uma forma recortada. O título fornece ao observador uma chave semântica para reconhecer aquela forma como nuvem. Forma e título passam a funcionar conjuntamente. Sem a informação cloud, o recorte branco poderia permanecer como uma configuração abstrata. Com ela, uma mancha irregular transforma se conceitualmente em imagem de nuvem.
A obra pode ser compreendida dentro da investigação de Valoch sobre os limites entre linguagem verbal e comunicação visual. Em vez de representar uma nuvem detalhadamente, o artista reduz o fenômeno a uma silhueta elementar. O procedimento aproxima poesia visual, colagem, desenho conceitual e arte conceitual. A economia de elementos torna decisiva a participação do observador, que precisa associar título e forma para completar semanticamente o trabalho.
Em 1969 Valoch já possuía uma trajetória consolidada na poesia visual internacional. Desde meados da década de 1960 participava de redes de poesia concreta e experimental e seus optical poems de 1966 haviam alcançado circulação internacional. A partir do final dos anos 1960 sua produção expandiu se da tipografia para desenho, fotografia, publicação, performance e outras formas de manifestação conceitual. Cloud documenta exatamente esse alargamento do campo poético.
A preservação da obra no acervo Poema Processo também é relevante para o estudo das relações internacionais da poesia experimental. O arquivo brasileiro reúne Cloud juntamente com diversas obras de Ji
í Valoch das décadas de 1960 e 1970, incluindo trabalhos datilografados, impressos, colagens e experimentações conceituais. Esse conjunto permite estudar as afinidades e conexões internacionais entre a poesia visual da Europa Central e as redes brasileiras relacionadas ao Poema Processo, sem que isso implique classificar Valoch como integrante formal do movimento brasileiro.

Cloud is a visual and conceptual poem by Ji
í Valoch created in 1969 in what was then Czechoslovakia. The work is constructed as a collage on paper and consists of an irregular white shape applied to a grayish brown sheet. The cutout occupies the upper central area of the composition and can be visually associated with an extremely reduced representation of a cloud. There is no text on the front of the work. The absence of written language transfers the poetic function to the relationship between shape, space, color, material support and visual recognition.
The Poema Processo archive records the work under the title cloud, registration number 00550, by Jiri Valoch, Czechoslovakia, dated 1969 and executed as collage on paper. The reverse of the object shown contains a handwritten notation near the upper left corner that appears to include the word cloud, followed by a horizontal line. Near the bottom is Ji
í Valochs handwritten signature together with the indication 69, materially confirming authorship and the 1969 dating.
Cloud belongs to an important transitional moment in Ji
í Valochs artistic development. In 1969 he regarded his earlier exploration of the pure structure of graphemes as largely exhausted and began expanding his practice toward linguistically oriented conceptual art and investigations he later associated with nonverbal semantics. Within this new field, drawing, shape, word, object and recognition could replace or complement the typographic structures of his earlier poems. Documentation on his development identifies 1969 as a transition between the optical poems produced mainly between 1966 and 1968 and more open conceptual forms based on relationships between meaning and perception.
This transformation is clearly visible in Cloud. Unlike his earlier typewritten works, the composition completely removes words from its frontal surface and presents only a cut paper shape. The title provides the viewer with a semantic key through which the form can be recognized as a cloud. Shape and title consequently operate together. Without the information cloud, the white cutout could remain an abstract configuration. Once associated with the title, the irregular form becomes conceptually identifiable as a cloud.
The work can therefore be understood within Valochs investigation of the boundaries between verbal language and visual communication. Rather than depicting a cloud descriptively, he reduces the phenomenon to an elementary silhouette. The procedure connects visual poetry, collage, conceptual drawing and conceptual art. Its economy of means gives the viewer an active role, since the semantic completion of the work depends on connecting title and image.
By 1969 Valoch already had an established presence within international visual poetry. Since the mid 1960s he had participated in concrete and experimental poetry networks, while his optical poems of 1966 achieved international circulation. From the late 1960s onward he expanded beyond typography toward drawing, photography, publishing, performance and other conceptual forms. Cloud documents this widening of the poetic field.
The preservation of Cloud in the Poema Processo archive is also relevant to the study of international experimental poetry networks. The Brazilian archive preserves this work alongside numerous other works by Ji
í Valoch from the 1960s and 1970s, including typewritten poems, printed works, collage and conceptual experiments. Together these materials enable research into affinities and connections between Central European visual poetry and Brazilian networks associated with the Process Poem Movement, without implying that Valoch was a formal member of the Brazilian movement
