Impresso gráfico produzido para divulgar uma exposição dedicada a nove esculturas realizadas dentro de caixas de fósforos. A composição transforma o anúncio da mostra em uma carta de baralho ampliada, com os números nove e seis, símbolos de paus e uma caixa de fósforos representada no centro. O título 9 Sculptures in Matchboxes apresenta a caixa de fósforos como espaço expositivo e suporte para a criação de objetos tridimensionais em escala mínima.

A exposição foi organizada no Five Towers Micro Hall Art Center, localizado em Alte Siedlung 45, D 2913 Augustfehn II, na então Alemanha Ocidental. Dirigido por Klaus Groh, o Micro Hall Art Center funcionou entre 1971 e 2006 como espaço independente dedicado à arte experimental, arte postal, poesia visual, publicações de artista, performances, objetos, projetos conceituais e formas alternativas de circulação artística.

Klaus Groh nasceu em 1936 em Neisse, atual Nysa, Polônia. Artista, historiador da arte, educador, escritor, editor, músico e organizador cultural, tornou se uma figura central das redes internacionais de Mail Art. Sua produção inclui colagem, arte objeto, livros de artista, poesia visual, publicações independentes e projetos de comunicação. Desde o final da década de 1960, Groh estabeleceu contatos entre artistas da Europa Ocidental, Europa Oriental, América do Norte, América Latina e outras regiões, contribuindo para a formação de uma rede artística internacional independente das galerias e do mercado tradicional.

Groh também dirigiu a International Artists Cooperation e editou o boletim IAC INFO, publicação destinada à troca de informações, endereços, projetos e convocatórias entre artistas de diversos países. A organização defendia a cooperação direta, a circulação não comercial da arte e o intercâmbio internacional de ideias. Sua atuação foi especialmente relevante durante a Guerra Fria, quando as redes postais permitiram estabelecer contatos entre artistas separados por fronteiras políticas e sistemas culturais distintos.

9 Sculptures in Matchboxes Exhibition integra a pesquisa de Klaus Groh sobre museus mínimos, objetos portáteis e espaços expositivos alternativos. Ao instalar esculturas dentro de caixas de fósforos, o projeto reduz o museu à escala da mão e converte um objeto cotidiano em arquitetura cultural. A proposta questiona as dimensões monumentais das instituições artísticas e demonstra que uma exposição pode existir em um recipiente simples, transportável e distribuído pelo correio.

Klaus Groh, 9 Sculptures in Matchboxes Exhibition, 1979 to 1981, Five Towers Micro Hall Art Center, Augustfehn II, West Germany, Federal Republic of Germany. Printed graphic material produced to announce an exhibition devoted to nine sculptures created inside matchboxes. The composition transforms the exhibition announcement into an enlarged playing card, combining the numbers nine and six, club symbols and the image of a matchbox at its center. The title 9 Sculptures in Matchboxes presents the matchbox as both an exhibition space and a support for miniature three dimensional objects.

The exhibition was organized at the Five Towers Micro Hall Art Center, located at Alte Siedlung 45, D 2913 Augustfehn II, in West Germany. Directed by Klaus Groh, the Micro Hall Art Center operated from 1971 to 2006 as an independent venue for experimental art, Mail Art, visual poetry, artist publications, performances, objects, conceptual projects and alternative forms of artistic circulation.

Klaus Groh was born in 1936 in Neisse, now Nysa, Poland. An artist, art historian, educator, writer, editor, musician and cultural organizer, he became a central figure within international Mail Art networks. His artistic production includes collage, object art, artist books, visual poetry, independent publications and communication projects. From the late 1960s onward, Groh connected artists from Western Europe, Eastern Europe, North America, Latin America and other regions, helping to establish an international artistic network independent from conventional galleries and commercial institutions.

Groh also directed the International Artists Cooperation and edited the IAC INFO bulletin, which circulated information, addresses, projects and international calls among artists in numerous countries. The organization promoted direct cooperation, noncommercial circulation and the international exchange of ideas. Its activities were particularly significant during the Cold War, when postal networks enabled communication between artists separated by political borders and different cultural systems.

9 Sculptures in Matchboxes Exhibition belongs to Klaus Groh

s investigation of miniature museums, portable objects and alternative exhibition spaces. By placing sculptures inside matchboxes, the project reduces the museum to the scale of the human hand and transforms an ordinary object into a form of cultural architecture. The proposal questions the monumental dimensions of conventional art institutions and demonstrates that an exhibition can exist inside a simple portable container that may also circulate through the postal system.
