BIOGRAPHY IN ENGLISHBarbara Aubin was an American artist, teacher, curator and cultural organizer born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1928 and deceased in the same city on 26 August 2014. Her practice included painting, watercolor, collage, assemblage, mixed media, sculpture, mail art and participatory projects. She became particularly known for her artistic use of postcards and for Send a Post Card to Barbara, a project initiated in 1979 at the Water Tower Gallery of Loyola University in Chicago. Her career also encompassed art education, feminist organizing, exhibition development and the formation of international correspondence networks.Aubin was born and spent most of her professional life in Chicago. Before concentrating on art, she studied sociology at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1949. She then studied art education at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, completing a second bachelor degree in 1954 and a master degree in art education in 1955. Records concerning her training identify Kathleen Blackshear and Edith Spears among her teachers.In 1955 Aubin received the George D. Brown Foreign Travel Fellowship, which enabled her to travel in France and Italy between 1955 and 1956.
