BiografiaMárcio Sampaio (Santa Maria de Itabira MG 1941)Crítico de arte, pintor, desenhista, poeta e professor.Aos 12 anos começa a pintar, copiando cartões-postais e figuras de revistas. Em 1953, muda-se para Itabira, Minas Gerais, onde tem suas primeiras lições de pintura, com Emília de Cause. Transfere-se para Belo Horizonte em 1959, e ingressa na Faculdade de Artes Visuais da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais - UFMG. Expõe Poemas-Cartazes na 1ª Semana Nacional de Poesia de Vanguarda, na Reitoria da UFMG, em 1963. Ainda no início da década de 1960, funda, com um grupo de amigos, a revista de vanguarda Ptyx. Realiza sua primeira mostra individual em 1964, mesmo ano em que lança o livro de poesias Rubro Apocalíptico. Passa a atuar como crítico de arte no jornal Diário de Minas em 1965 e lança seu segundo livro de poemas, O Ciclo de Barro. No ano seguinte, começa a colaborar como ilustrador no suplemento literário do Minas Gerais, recém-criado pelo escritor Murilo Rubião (1916 - 1991). Participa da 9ª Bienal Internacional de São Paulo, em 1967. Entre 1968 e 1971, é coordenador do Museu de Arte da Pampulha - MAP (Belo Horizonte MG). Em 1971, inicia a série de obras denominada Galeria Antropofágica e, no ano seguinte, assume a coordenação do Palácio das Artes de Belo Horizonte. Ingressa como professor na Escola de Belas Artes da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais - EBA/UFMG em 1977, e se aposenta em 1999. Em 2005 é realizada na Grande Galeria do Palácio das Artes de Belo Horizonte a exposição Declaração de Bens, retrospectiva de 50 anos de sua carreira.Comentário CríticoMárcio Sampaio dedica-se inicialmente ao desenho, no qual, como nota o historiador da arte Roberto Pontual, revela o interesse pelos costumes e pela cultura mineira. O artista explora também questões da fotografia e da paisagem urbana, como na série Indicações, s.d. e cria obras a partir de objetos do cotidiano.Uma de suas séries mais conhecidas é a Galeria Antropofágica, iniciada em 1971, na qual recria com humor e ironia obras de diferentes artistas nacionais, como Tarsila do Amaral (1886 - 1973) , Milton Dacosta (1915 - 1988) e Amilcar de Castro (1920 - 2002), apresentando-as juntamente com trabalhos de artistas internacionais, como Piet Mondrian (1872 - 1944) e Kazimir Malevitch (1878 - 1935).Durante a década de 1970, Sampaio passa a atuar como crítico de arte, escrevendo primeiramente para o Diário de Minas Gerais e em seguida para o Suplemento Literário de Minas Gerais. Como nota a historiadora da arte Marília Andrés Ribeiro, o artista procura ainda incentivar o trabalho de jovens artistas mineiros, promovendo mostras coletivas como o Happening Brasil: a Festa, a Construção, Arte Total, 1970 que, por meio de imagens da arte popular e do repertório moderno, busca uma releitura da cultura brasileira. No final da década de 1960, ao coordenar os eventos do Museu de Arte da Pampulha - MAP, organiza o 1º Salão de Arte Contemporânea de Belo Horizonte, com o qual abre espaço para as propostas dos artistas da vanguarda mineira, como José Ronaldo Lima (1939), Lotus Lobo (1943), Jarbas Juarez (1936), Raymundo Colares (1944 - 1986) e Noviello (1929), entre outros. É curador de grandes mostras temáticas como A Paisagem Mineira, 1977, no Palácio das Artes, que apresenta uma ampla reflexão sobre a história da paisagem local, e Desenho Mineiro, 1979, no mesmo local, que procura demonstrar as potencialidades dessa técnica em Minas Gerais, desde o modernismo.

BiographyMarcio Sampaio (Santa Maria de Itabira MG 1941)Art critic, painter, designer, poet and teacher.At the age of 12, he began painting, copying postcards and magazine illustrations. In 1953, he moved to Itabira, Minas Gerais, where he took his first painting lessons with Emília de Cause. He moved to Belo Horizonte in 1959 and enrolled in the Faculty of Visual Arts at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG). He exhibited "Poem-Posters" at the 1st National Week of Avant-Garde Poetry, held at the UFMG Rectorate in 1963. Also in the early 1960s, he founded the avant-garde magazine Ptyx with a group of friends. He held his first solo exhibition in 1964, the same year he published his poetry book Rubro Apocalíptico. He began working as an art critic for the newspaper Diário de Minas in 1965 and published his second book of poems, O Ciclo de Barro. The following year, he began collaborating as an illustrator on the literary supplement of Minas Gerais, recently created by writer Murilo Rubião (1916-1991). He participated in the 9th São Paulo International Biennial in 1967. Between 1968 and 1971, he was coordinator of the Pampulha Art Museum (MAP) (Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais).
